The Wagner Thunderbirds advance to the 2016-17 UIL Boys State Basketball Championship.
--Star of the game: Tristan Clark converted 12 of 19 shots from the field. And made three of four free throws. He also had six rebounds, one steal.
--Play of the game: During the final seconds of the second half, D. Clark of Wagner found an opening in the Westlake defense and took advantage by sinking a huge three-pointer to win the game.
Westlake was able to maintain their lead the entire third and majority of the fourth quarter. Then the closing seconds doomed the Westlake Chaparrals. DaRaun Clark make a layup in he’s fouled D. Clark makes the free throw in the game is now 52-50 Westlake. Westlake drives the ball down court but the Thunderbirds defense wouldn’t allow Chaparrals to score. Thunderbirds got the ball back drove the ball up court in Chaparrals defense left Wagner’s DaRaun Clark wide open, D. Clark set his feet in made the three-pointer. The Thunderbirds bench exploded with excitement. Thunderbirds improved to 35-2 overall and will advance to the 2016-17 UIL Boys State Basketball Championship of the playoffs.
Westlake season ends at 29-7 overall.
